Colors, In Fashion

Welcome, It’s Friday, and yet I have my think cap on.

I have been wondering (as I often do) about clothes and the role they play in our lives.

I also have been wondering if gender, race, or geographic location matter, and if yes then how so.

A lot of this has been sparked by the big deal that has come about from the Italian Vogue (July,08) issue.

For the first time EVER, (yes I said Ever) the majority of the models in a major fashion magazine are black.

In my reading about this issue I have heard some of the craziest things about why this is the first time this has happen.

• Black models don't inspire people to buy clothes


• Black models don't have the dedication to the craft to mold into the model image


• Black models are just lazy
  

To be perfectly honest with you I am not sure how to feel about the subject.

I know the reasons mentioned above are not correct, but there has to be a reason that black models have not been viewed in the fashion industry as an asset.

So, I pose the question to you.

Why in an industry that is supported and adored by people around the world including blacks is it that black models can't break into mainstream on a grand scale and be viewed as models not “black models”?

Ok, if you were born in the 70's-80's then you will get this. If you were not just act like you do, and continue to think the 80's is a decade worth revisiting for fashion tips (my jury is still out on that one)

Today's Marc Jacob dress falls directly into that catogory, I mean the moment I saw it I thought of Flash Gordon the 80's cult classic.




You know the one with the terrible graphics and bad acting, but you didn't realize either till you tried to watch as an adult.

Well, the fashion world won't recognize that it's return to the 80's was bad either until about 20 years from now, so for now lets enjoy it.

First and foremost I love that most of the media coverage about our next first lady is about her fashion, and not about anything silly like her education and achievements. (That was full of sarcastic under tones)

LOL.

With that being said some days when an outfit comes together one can only say WOW and she had one of those days.

I have to give credit where credit is due, Michelle Obama (I know you didn’t think I was speaking of anyone else) looked great in her dress at the DNP acceptance rally for Barack Obama.

It was appropriate for the event. (regardless of what some have said, Haters!!)

I mean if your man has just slay a dragon to be in the running for the ruler of the free world, and you are called to stand there with him, a great dress is fitting.

Michelle Obama made herself and her husband look great. For that I will give her the first Distinguished Dtail award.

Working it out

Welcome, I'm am so glad that you are here. (No,really sometimes I feel like I am writing to myself)

I have a lot going on today. For starters I'm am sore (you know like it hurts to move) because for the first time in my life I am having to work to get "Beach Ready".

Let me tell you the problem,
life was fine until I got I received a save the date card for a friends birthday party.

I've been to her parties before, (think Mtv sweet 16 with fashionable adults), and it hit me that I may have to get stripped down to the bathing suit attire in front of people (its a weekend long event).

Instantly flashbacks of late night snacks all winter long and eating out for weeks at a time (living on the road is hard) came to me. I had to step my gym visits up.

OMG its Finally Friday

I don't know about you, but this 8 day work week we just had was a bit much for me. Wait, it was actually five but it seemed like 8. This week I did both Coast, ATL-LA Sunday and LA-ATL Wednesday.

For now though I just want to dance, I need a dance floor and a great music.

Prior, Proper, Planning

Prior proper planning prevents pitifully poor performance.

O.k., the mantra rings in my head every time I realize that I could have done something a while ago but put it off only to make my life harder at that time.

Let's not have that happen to you.

I know that right now we are knee deep in the summers warmth, but let us not forget the winters assured arrival.

In an effort to help your prior proper planning I have begun to put together many of the piece from the late summer and early fall collections. Continue to check that one as I will update it as we get closer to the season.
